Watch video to see how it works. The gap between my ceiling and fan is because there was a light only up there and the casing for the wires is still there. We have other projects around the house.i needed this in my daughter's room so we installed it and can live with it like this for a while. We will fix it when the house is done. Anyways, the length it is from ceiling is same length as the light /fam chain is in the other rooms. ( still room to walk under it). I definitely recommend!

- Q:The fan will not startA:1,If you are using the ceiling fan light kit, ensure the screws securing the flassware are tihhy and check that the light bulbs are also secure 2, Allow a " 24 hours breaking" in period, ,most noise asscociated with the a new fan disapperare during this time 3, Ensure the canopy is a short distance from the ceiling , but it should not touch with the ceiling. 4, Ensure the screws that attach the fan blade bracket to the motor hub are tighten. .
