This thing works great. Makes just enough for two people for ~ 3 servings each. When it is strawberry season here, we get a flat and eat the heck out of them but, we do get tired of them. We also make shortcake, bread and adult beverages with them. There are ALWAYS some left and I just end up freezing them which, does not really do them justice. SOLUTION: MAKE ICE CREAM! With this ice cream maker, takes about an hour plus prep time. Benefits are: I don't have to freeze anything in advance. I can put warm ingredients into it. I don't have to spend big bucks on a large amount of ingredients to fill it. Easy to store and easy to clean. It is totally self contained! Easy to store up on a shelf somewhere. (Note: try not to tip it sideways, it is a refrigerator basically. Not good for the compressor!) YOU CONTROL THE INGREDIENTS. It is FAR BETTER than even the best store bough ice cream. Downside: It is a little noisy but, I lay a couple oven mits on the top and that helps a lot. Now, you can pretty much throw anything in this like a can of condensed milk, some milk, a lil powdered sugar and some good vanilla bean: https://amzn.to/3K5q34N BUT, I MUCH prefer a custard based ice cream! It's the absolute best and 8 ingredients including berries. You need a GOOD thermometer! https://amzn.to/3ZvVw67 Heat 1 cup whole milk, 2 cups cream, 1 cup sugar and 1 teas salt to 180 while stirring on med. Remove from heat and spoon some into the room temp egg yolks, stirring and warming them. Then slowly drizzle the warmed yolk mix into the pan of milk mixture while stirring. Put back on med heat and stir until it reaches 180f. Then pour this custard through a strainer into a bowl. (Then eat the appx 1 teas of yummy custard bits that end up in strainer!) Remove from heat and stir in 2 teas vanilla and 1 teas vanilla beans. https://amzn.to/3K5q34N For the fruit, strawberries, blend up 1 lb of them with tops removed obviously. Put in a pan with 2 Tbls lemon juice and 1/2 cup sugar. Heat on med until about 195 while stirring. Turn it way down and let cook until it is about 3/4 of what it was. (lose about 25% of water in the steam basically) I allow all mixtures to cool a bit to around room temp then I put 2 cups of the custard into the machine. Let it run until it starts to thicken, you can tell by the sound of the machine, about half hour. Then add 1 cup of strawberries! Let it run until done! MAKES TWO BATCHES! IMPORTANT: be sure when you freeze the ice cream, put it in containers with NO AIR GAP or you will get ice crystals / freezer burn. I USE THESE AND THEY WORK GREAT! : https://amzn.to/3zn3KTs Also makes it easier to give some away! You can use flavors if you want and even make BLACK ICE CREAM with these gel based colorings! Great for Halloween, Christmas, ST. Patrick's day, Easter themed ice cream etc.. https://amzn.to/3m0NQLn The gel coloring do not stain or turn tongue colors like regular food colorings. These small dessert bowls are PERFECT for serving this great ice cream from your new ice cream machine! https://amzn.to/3MaEFCT I hope this helps!
This was a Christmas gift for the whole family. Super easy to use - no parts to freeze ahead of time, just add ingredients and go. Perfect consistency everytime - you can make your ice cream as soft or hard as you want depending on how long you let it run. Seems to be durable - we used ours more than once a day, almost every day for a few weeks right after Christmas and have continued to use it at least once a week since and it's still running great. On a few occasions we have taken it out for a crowd and have made several batches in a row and it hasn't had any issues.
This was my Christmas gift to myself. I've wanted one with a compressor for awhile because I hate putting the bowl in the freezer. This is much quicker and easier, and it freezes nice and firm. My old one without a compressor only makes it about the consistency of a melty milkshake. I'm sure I'll be using this a lot during summer. On the downside, you do need to have counter space for it because it's kind of big and heavy. My kitchen is small, but I made room on a baker's rack that I use as a coffee station. Now it's a coffee and ice cream station. Ya can't beat that!
Works like a charm!! The absolute easiest way to make homemade ice cream!!!
I make vegan ice cream and sorbet and people are always happy.
